Mutazioni
for electronic sounds on tape (1955)

Written in 1955 at the Studio di Fonologia Musicale of the Italian Radio in Milan, Mutazioni is built on the principle of continuum. In Mutazioni, the continuum is created by the choice of material: a group of sine waves belonging to the same scale. This material is elaborated in a subtle, if simple, way: modes of attack and durations are minutely varied, resulting in a mutation of the original material.
