The 76th Festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino celebrates Luciano Berio with three concerts: on May 11 Zubin Mehta will conduct the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Quattro versioni originali della Ritirata Notturna di Madrid di L. Boccherini and SOLO, with the renowned Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg. May 28 is the "Berio Day" with two concerts in the Piccolo Teatro: the vocal ensemble L’Homme Armé, conducted by Fabio Lombardo, will perform A-Ronne; the program features also Visage, with sound projection by Francesco Canavese and Francesco Giomi (Centro Tempo Reale, Florence); following, Giuseppe La Malfa conducts the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Folk Songs and Siete canciones populares españolas (De Falla-Berio), with mezzo-soprano Anna Malavasi.

On May 15 and 16 at the Cité de la Musique, Paris, are scheduled two concerts with Berio's music. Alexander Liebreich conducts the Münchener Kammerorchester in Rendering (May 15); Michel Tabachnik conducts the Brussels Philharmonic and Synergy Vocals in Sinfonia (May 16).

The Ravenna Festival 2013 will host an Omaggio a Berio : on June 19, Danilo Grassi will conduct the Nextime Ensemble, with partecipation of Tempo Reale, l'Homme Armé, Monica Bacelli and Marco Cavalcoli (speaker) in Calmo, Cries of London, Laborintus II e Naturale (Teatro Alighieri).

Between October and December 2012 many concerts featuring Luciano Berio's music are scheduled. Here is a selection of some outstanding events (for the compete list see the Concert calendar). From October 11 to 20 the Scottish Ballet will be on tour with Workwithinwork, created by choreographer William Forsythe and based on Duetti per due violini; performances are scheduled in Edinburgh (October 11-13), Inverness (October 16-17) and Aberdeen (October 19-20). On November 5, at the Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence, Danilo Rossi (viola) and Jonathan Faralli (percussion) will perform Naturale with sound projection by Francesco Giomi and Damiano Meacci (Centro Tempo Reale, Florence) who curated the multi-canal realization of the radio work Ritratto di città that completes the evening's program. From December 3 to 5 Daniel Huppert will conduct Rendering with the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle (Großes Haus, Schwerin). On December 7 the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Josep Pons will perform Sinfonia with the Synergy Vocals and Otto Romanze by Verdi/Berio with tenor Atalla Ayanand (Barbican Centre, Londra. Last but not least, yet another performance of Sinfonia, conducted by Stefan Asbury with the Noord Nederlands Orkest in Groningen (December 14) and Leeuwarden (December 15).

Cataloguing of the audio collection of Luciano Berio at Tempo Reale

This project involves monitoring and cataloguing the audio collection of Luciano Berio deposited with the center Tempo Reale in Florence. Work was begun on compiling a database in December 2011 under the direction of Dott. Gianluca Verlingieri for the benefit of those working at the center, and it will soon become accessible to the scientific community at large.

One of the most outstanding events in the rich concert calendar of spring 2012 is performance of Ofanìm at the Cité de la Musique, Paris, in the frame of Ircam's ManiFeste Festival 2012: it is scheduled on June 9, with the Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Susanna Mälkki with the children choir of the Maîtrise de Radio France directed by Sofi Jeannin, the Israeli singer Esti Kenan Ofri, live electronics by Francesco Giomi and Damiano Meacci (Centro Tempo Reale, Florence). Also in June, Christoph Altstaedt will conduct the Tiroler Symphonieorchester in Rendering (Innsbruck, June 14 and 15) and Walter Seyfarth will perform Sequenza IX at the Philharmonie, Berlin (June 14, 15 and 16). Following, two concerts are scheduled in Parvoo, during the Avanti! festival: on June 28, the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Susanna Mälkki, will perform Rendering, and on the 1st July, with violinist Jaakko Kuusisto, the Chamber Orchestra will perform Corale, under the direction of Dima Slobodeniouk. On July 31, in the frame of Salzburg Festspiele, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the Klangforum Wien and mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča in Folk Songs.

Between July and September 2012 many concerts featuring Luciano Berio's music are scheduled. Here is a selection of some outstanding events (for the compete list see the Concert calendar). On July 31, at the Salzburger Festspiele, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct Folk Songs with mezzo-soprano Elīna Garančaand the Klangforum Wien and. On August 7 and 8, in the frame of the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, New York, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, directed by Susanna Mälkki, performs Rendering; on August 8 three of Berio's solo Sequenze (Sequenza I, Sequenza II and Sequenza VIII) will be performed by musicians of the International Contemporary Ensemble. On September 23 students of Koninklijk Conservatorium and Codarts will perform Sequenza I, III, IV, V, VII, VIII, X e XII (Kees van Baarenzaal, Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag). At the end of September (28-29-30) the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam devotes a three-day festival to Berio's music. On September 28 Rendering and Sinfonia will be performed by the KC Codarts Symphony Orchestra conducted by Etienne Siebens with the Synergy Vocals; on the 29th Arie van Beek will conduct Coro and Folk Songs with the Cappella Amsterdam and the Doelensensemble. On September 30 three different concerts will take place with performances of Laborintus II (Conservatorium van Amsterdam directed by Arnold Marinissen), Sequenza VI and VII, Calmo, Chemins II and IV, El mar la mar with the Asko|Schönberg directed by Reinbert de Leeuw, and Sequenza I, III, VIII, IX, X, XIII, XIV, with an extraordinary homage to Sequenza IX by the Calefax Reed Quintet.

Mike Patton and Laborintus II

On July 3, 2012, the label Ipecac Recordings released Laborintus II, a tribute to Luciano Berio by the American performer Mike Patton. The CD, which is the result of a collaboration between Patton, the Ictus Ensemble and the Nederlands Kamerkoor, features the performance of Laborintus II, conducted by Georges-Elie Octors and with Mike Patton as speaker, that took place in June 2010 in Amsterdam, in the frame of the Holland Festival.

The concert calendar between April and June 2012 is rich of interesting events. Following is a short selection. From 21 to 28 April the Ensemble Intercontemporain, directed by Alain Altinoglu, will perform Folk Songs with mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch in their tournée in Spain and France. The tour will touch the towns of Madrid (April 21), Lyon (April 23), Paris (April 25) and Bordeaux (April 28). On April 28, at the University of Salford, Manchester, Marco Visconti-Prasca will conduct the University of Salford Sinfonietta in Laborintus II, with Federico Sanguineti as speaker.
Jeffrey Milarsky will perform Recital for Cathy with the mezzo-soprano Kiera Duffy. The concert is due on May 8 in the frame of Green Umbrella concert season of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
In Hamburg, on May 31, Geoffrey Paterson will conduct Tempi concertati and Rendering with the Hamburger Symphoniker.

Many concerts with Luciano Berio's music are scheduled between February and March 2012. Following is a selection of the most outstanding. February starts with six performances of Rendering: three concerts in Düsseldorf, with Andrey Boreyko and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker (February 3, 5 and 6), and three in Karlsruhe, with the Badische Staatskapelle conducted by Johannes Willig (February 5, 6 and 9). On February 18 and 19 the Orchestre Symphonique Région Centre, conducted by Jean-Yves Ossonce, will perform Requies at the Grand Théâtre in Tours. On the 1st of March, in the frame of Festival of Modern Music in Reykjavik, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ilan Volkov, will perform Accordo. On March 13, France Musique will broadcast live A-ronne, performed by Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart on February 16 at the Grand Théâtre de l’Opéra de Dijon.

Many concerts with Luciano Berio's music are scheduled between the end of October and the beginning of December 2011. Following is a selection of the most outstanding. On October 28, in Munich, David Robertson conducts the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks with the Synergy Vocals in Sinfonia. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Theodor Currentzis, will perform Folk Songs in their forthcoming tournée in Germany and Poland. The concerts, featuring mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman, will take place in Berlin (November 5, Radialsystem), Poznan (November 7, Aula Universytechka), Warsaw (November 8, Filharmonia Naradowa) and Krakau (November 9, Filharmonia Krakowska). On December 1st, the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw will host the Ensemble Modern conducted by Hartmut Keil in a concert devoted entirely to Luciano Berio's music: Différences, Folk Songs, Sequenza III (Jenny Carlstedt), Sequenza V (Uwe Dierksen), Sequenza X (Valentin Garvie), and Sequenza XIV (Michael M. Kasper).

10 concerts featuring Berio at the Philharmonie, Berlin

In the frame of the Berliner Philharmoniker 2011-2012 concert season, ten concerts are dedicated to Luciano Berio’s music. The concerts of September 22, 23 and 24, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, feature Rendering, and Sequenza VII performed by Albrecht Mayer, principal oboe of the orchestra. From October 20 to 22, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the orchestra in Quatre dédicaces. As part of the «Late Nights» at the Philharmonie, two concerts are scheduled: on October 28 and 29, Olaf Ott will perform Sequenza V for trombone and Simon Rattle will conduct Folk Songs with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and members of Berliner Philharmoniker; on December 10 the violinist Andreas Buschatz will perform Sequenza VIII.
