Red Note Ensemble on tour with «Différences»

From 11 to 14 May 2011, the Red Note Ensemble, directed by Garry Walker, will perform Différences for five instruments and tape in their tournée in Scotland. The tour will touch the towns of Banchory (May 11), Edinburgh (May 12), Glasgow (May 13) and Stirling (May 14). The program also includes two works by Salvatore Sciarrino and a new composition by the Scottish composer Carolyn Sparey.

«Rendering» in Europe

During the month of April 2011 three European orchestras perform Rendering in the frame of their concert seasons. The NDR Sinfonieorchester conducted by Paolo Carignani performs Rendering at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg (April 7 and 8). On April 13 and 14 Enrique Mazzola conducts the Swedish Radio SO in Stockholm: the program includes also Quattro versioni originali della "Ritirata notturna di Madrid" di Luigi Boccherini. Last but not least, Semyon Bychkov and the Gewandhausorchester perform Rendering at the historical Gewandhaus of Leipzig in a triple appointment scheduled for April 14, 15 and 16.

«Sinfonia» at the Cité de la musique

On Saturday, the 9th of April 2011, the Citè de la Musique in Paris hosts a concert dedicated to contemporary Italian music: the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris and the Swingle Singers, conducted by Jonathan Nott, will perform Sinfonia. The program includes also «No hay caminos. Hay que caminar»... Andrei Tarkowskij by Luigi Nono.

Berio at the Carnegie Hall

In the month of March 2011 two concerts with Luciano Berio’ s music took place at the Zankel Hall – the newest venue of the New York Carnegie Hall. On March 10 the American group Alarm Will Sound, all along interested in the connections between contemporary and pop music, performed the show 1969. Created and developed by Andrew Kupfer, Nigel Maister and Alan Pierson, the show was made of a variegated series of works by Leonard Bernstein, Luciano Berio (selections from Traces and Sinfonia, Michelle II from Beatles Songs and O King), Karlheinz Stockhausen, The Beatles and Yoko Ono.
On March 31 the ACJW Ensemble, directed by David Robertson, brought on the stage two closely related works by Mozart and Berio: the Mozart's unfinished Singspiel Zaide (Das Serail) K. 344, performed with Vor, während, nach Zaide – in his New York première – composed by Berio in 1995 as a commentary on Mozart's Zaide.

The Ensemble Intercontemporain on tour with «Recital for Cathy»

During the European tour in five stages scheduled for March 2011, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, conducted by Peter Eötvös, will perform Recital for Cathy for mezzo-soprano and 17 instruments, with the mezzo-soprano Measha Brueggergosman. The five concerts will take place in Barcelona (March 11), Cologne (March 13), Lisbon (March 15), Antwerp (March 17) and Amsterdam (March 19).

«Workwithinwork» by William Forsythe : the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon dances «Duetti per due violini» in Paris

From the 23th of February to the 1st of March, the show Workwithinwork, by the American choreographer William Forsythe and the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, will be performed in Paris at the Théâtre de la Ville. The program includes a performance of Forsythe's choreography for Luciano Berio's Duetti per due violini.

Concert : the Grau-Schumacher Duo performs «Concerto» with the Dresdner Philharmonie conducted by Roberto Abbado

On the 5th and the 6th of February 2011 the Grau-Schumacher Piano Duo with the Dresdner Philharmonie conducted by Roberto Abbado performed Concerto for two pianos and orchestra by Luciano Berio. The concert will take place at the Kulturpalast, Dresden.

Luciano Berio's music has always been widely and frequently performed in the various music centers. Recent performances include Naturale performed by members of The Het Gelders Orkest (Doorwerth,January 15); a tour of Différences with the Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam conducted by Ed Spanjaard (Arnhem, Amsterdam and Enschede, January 19-20-21); Gesti for recorder performed by Erik Bosgraaf in Amsterdam (February 18 and 21). The Doelensemble and the VocalLAB Nederland conducted by Arie van Beek performed Laborintus II in Rotterdam and at the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw (February 26 and 27). A-Ronne and Cries of London were performed on March 1 by the VocalLAB conducted by Henry Kelder in a concert dedicated to Berio in the Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam.

Chamber works at the Southbank Centre, London

In the frame of the concert season of the Park Lane Group – Young Artists New Year Series 2011, and in collaboration with the Southbank Centre of London, three works by Luciano Berio were performed: Korót for 8 cellos (ensemble Cellophony, January 10); Sonata for piano (Jennifer Lee, January 12), and Gesti for recorder (Francesca Thompson, January 14). The concerts took place at the Queen Elisabeth Hall, Southbank Center, London.

«Quatre dédicaces» performed by the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI at the opening concert for the 150° anniversary of the Italian Unification

The celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy were inaugurated in Reggio Emilia on the 7th of January with a solemn "Concerto per il Tricolore" at the Teatro Valli, at the presence of the President Giorgio Napolitano. The program of the concert, performed by Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai and conducted by Michele Mariotti, included Luciano Berio's Quatre dédicaces for orchestra. The concert was broadcast live on Radio Rai, and in tv streaming on Rai-Storia. Quatre dédicaces was performed again by the OSN on the 4th of February in Torino, with Frank Ollu conducting, within the frame of the concert series "RAI Nuova musica".
